Inspired by: My little pony: Friendship is magic

As the season premiere of the My little pony Friendship is Magic is rolling around quite soon I decided that this would be the perfect time to take some fashion inspiration from the most regal of all Ponies the four Alicorn princesses.

Princess Celestia

Princess Celestia is the benevolent ruler of Equestria and the princess of the day. Her reign spans hundreds maybe thousands of years. She is also responsible of bringing up the day by raising the sun. She is kind, warm, wise and has a mischievous streak.

Stylewise princess Celestia is very regal in a very comfortable way. Her colours are soft bright pastels and lovely radiant whites. She seems to be the universal mother figure of the ponykind and as such her look is very approachable.

Princess Celestia

For Princess Celestia I chose a pale white dress with pastel coloured blouse, bolero and stockings. To make her royal status clear, she wears a golden crown, shoes and a sun pendant to connect with her celestial charge. As you can see I chose to not use wigs so my primary inspiration were her colours.

Princess Luna / Nightmare moon

Princess Luna is the sister of Celestia who succumbed to her jealousy and was turned in to the evil mare of Darkness, Nightmare moon who wished to bring about eternal night. Celestia was forced to banish her in to the moon for a thousand years. Now she has returned and redeemed by the elements of harmony. Her duties include bringing the night by raising the moon and soothing ponies' nigthtmares by offering her wisdom via dream walking.

As the princess of the nigth Luna's style is darker and a good bit colder than Celestia's. Even if she is smaller in stature her presence is more imposing in the world of mostly pastel coloured subjects.
As the Nigthmare she was even more dark, cold and imposing choosing to wear armour instead of regalia the princesses usually prefere.

I chose to do both, Luna and Nightmare. Both would were high heeled boots and a moon shaped pendant but show their differences with their other choises. To add to their mystery as beings of the night I had them wear masks. Luna's mask shows the beuaty of the moon where Nightmare's is dark, and twisted, a horror of the moonless night. Their material choices are different as well. Luna's dress is floaty light chiffon where Nightmare wears something hard, almost leathery.

Princess Cadence

Cadence or Princess Mia Amora Cadenza is the princess of Love and The Crystal Princess of the Crystal Empire. She is kind in a more youthful big sisterly way than Celestia. She ascended to alicornhood when she fully grasped the magic of love and became the adopted niece of Celestia.  In her wedding to Shining Armour their combined love defeated the queen of the Changelings and her army. Now they live in and rule the Crystal Empire.

Cadence's style is befittingly pink for the princess of Love. As an alicorn she is quite a lot younger than Luna or Celestia and thusly more normal looking as ponies go. Her mane is not a wild mass of swirling magic but normal like every other pony though as the Crystal princess she may use some gems to decorate it.

Princess Cadence

For Cadence I chose a onepiece dress with a soft pink hue. She would wear a crown decorated with heartshaped gems and add roses in her hair. I also chose to include the crystal heart pendant to show of her status as the Crystal Princess.

Princess Twilight

Twiligth Sparkle is the newest princess of Equestria, once pupil of Celestia and quite bookish. She is not quite comfortable in her role yet and thusly not quite as confident as the other princesses. Her ascendance to alicornhood came from friendship and her role in Equestria is still quite uncertain.

As the newest of the princesses I would venture a guess that Twiligth would be a very classic princess, choosing safer option with the help of her fashionista friend Rarity. She would still hold on to a bit of her neat style suited for librarian and a student.

For Twilight I chose a less formal dress as she isn't quite accustomed to her new status. Her crown is more of headband showing of the shape of her cutiemark. Twilight would wear some well chosen jewelery maybe on the insistence of Rarity. Her choice of dress is quite practical ( it has pockets!) accordance to her logical personality.

Bonus round: Queen Chrysalis

Chrysalis is Queen of the Changelings a race of ponylike beings with some added attributes from the world of insects. They feed on love and can take a form of anypony to syphon off the love of those closest to their victim. In the wedding of Princess Cadence and Shining Armour, Chrysalis took the form of Cadence to lead an invasion of Equestria which promptly failed as Twiligth freed the real Cadence ableing her and Shining Armour to defeat the Queen.

Chrysalis is the creepiest thing the show has thrown out so far. She is about the size of Celestia with holes on her hooves and a jagged mallformed horn and seaweedlike green hair. Her style thusly is quite dark with colour palette of black and sickly greens.

With Chrysalis I chose to go a little bit more punk as befits a queen of the Badlands come to fight for dominance of Equestria. To corrolate with her insectoid wings she would wear a dragonfly pendant and soft floaty fabrics. Torn stockings give her outfit some approriate edge.

So this is my take about these royals. Do you have any ideas of what they migth wear or do you just dislike this show completely? Is there other shows you find inspiring? Do share your thoughts in the comments.

Lolita blog carnival: Book inspired coordinate.

So this week we were supposed to be inspired by books. Can you guess which book I chose?

Well Harry Potter of course! And as Pottermore tells me I'm a Slytherin so I decided to proudly sport my houses colours! A dark blouse is to give it that mystic edge that tells which house has produced most dark wizards.

Outfit rundown:
Hat, blouse: Vintage
Dress, scarf: Hand made by yours truly.
Stockings: Random
Shoes: Wonders

Sanni came ovar for tea. We had quite a lot of fun with blinies and a Russian sort of blend.

Inspired by: Romantic Heroines

Romantic heroines are an interesting bunch. There are so many different types to choose from. Two of these I've chosen are from great classic stories and the last one is from what one would call trashy romance fiction of the modern era. This should be fun. Let us carry on.

Jane Eyre
The orphaned daughter of a highborn woman and a poor priest has sent to school by her cold aunt. In the school she grows up to be a teacher and finally leaves to become a governess for the ward of Mr. Rochester a dark and mysterious gentleman.  Her conviction to virtue will carry her through a storm of passion and towards happiness.
Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre wears a smart yet functional one piece dress with dainty collar and a muted colour scheme. Her stockings are grey and she wears practical boots and a school type bag for after all she is straigth out of Lowood at this point. To cover her head against the cool english climate she has a nice. Jane is a teacher so she needs a watch to make sure she is in time.

Elizabeth Bennett

In my opinion Elizabeth Bennett is the Jane Austen heroine. She is quite witty, quite beautiful and very much in need of a husband. She lives her life as a gentle woman of a regency England. Her prospects are quite meager for her home will be inherited by a distant cousin and as her parents hoped for a son they didn't realize that they would need to save money for their daughters. A new world opens as the neighboring estate is rented out to a young man...

Elizabeth Bennett

Elizabeth makes her elegant figure stand out with a simple lined dress which she accessories modestly. A simple ribbon in her hair and an umbrella to protect one from surprise showers during those long walks. Polkadotted tigths give her look a quirky edge that is sure to catch the eye of the esteemed Mr Darcy.

The quintessential Barbara Cartland heroine.
She is pure and she is young and beautiful and naturally she is in great peril usually because a man who she absolutely despises wishes to marry her. Often she will escape this man and run into another man (the hero) who is dashing, experienced (in the art of love) and most of the time very very rich and even more jaded. He will eventually fall in love with her for she is different and more worthy than any other woman in his life. But alas the danger still lurks...
The quintessential Barbara Cartland heroine

She (weither her name is Tatika or Paenthia or Lucretia) wears something that is definitely romantic. Her hair is adorned with roses and to disguise herself during her escape a cape is needed. Around her wrist we find a memento of a loved one, perhaps a lost mother of adored but now deceised father... She truly is queen of romance.

Is there any romantic heroines that you, my dear reader find very inspiring indeed? Do share in the comments.

Innocent world anniversary rose.

Today I received my new Innocent world dress, the Anniversary rose just waist jumperskirt. It is really lovely even more lovely than in the the pictures on Innocent world's site.

I ordered the green version of the print and must say that the shade is just perfect. It's this really dark mossy green with a hint of blue, which makes the pattern stand out quite nicely. I have to note that the dress is quite narrow on the hem department but over all the shape is marvelous and flattering.

Lolita blog carnival: My favorite print theme in lolita

my favorite print theme

Yes. It's books. I adore book prints and plan to own as many as I can. Currently I am making one and the dress above is one of my dream dresses. I also like the other dresses Juliette & Justine has put out with this motif but this one piece is my absolute favourite. (And I shall not even mention the Jane Marple library print. Yes please in every colour!)

So why books? Well first of all I love reading. Even my fiancée is sometimes jealous of my books. Secondly I am studying to be a librarian so what better print style for me? Thirdly books are my biggest inspiration. I love making coordinates based around stories like Harry Potter, Lord of the rings or anything with vampires or a Brönte sister as an author. So naturally wearing a dress full of books is the perfect way to declare my love of stories.

Do tell my about your favourite print themes in the comments.

Lolita blog carnival: Three trends I never got into

Over the top sweet lolita

Well this is way too obvious. I haven't worn much sweet so this was one trend I never really cared about. I suppose it was too saccarine. Also I was still on full gothic mode when this started.

 Wigs

To this day I haven't worn wigs in lolita. I just find it rather tedious and always prefered the natural hair look. Although a curly, long wig has always tempted me mostly because my hair refuses to stay in curls for longer that half an hour.

 Teaparty shoes

Just never cared for them. I like a more delicate heel and they just don't have that.  Plus I don't think they would suit my style very well.

Are there any trends you never cared for? Please share in the comments.

Autumn inspiration.

I have noticed this autumn I am leaning more and more towards colour. So far my closet has been dominated by black but I am adding more and more colours, like dark red, blue, brown and different greys. I have even gotten brown shoes so I can wear outfits with no black at all. It seems that though I love gothic lolita, classic has been taking more and more room in my closet and in my heart. In a away it was inevitable as I have always loved historical influences in lolita.

Also during autumn time I always get fascinated by the dollykei and mori girl styles and wish incorporate them to my lolita coordinations. Part of this migth be the fact that I feel those styles are warm and cocoony which works nicely in hopefully cooling Finland.

As for accesories there is ofcourse my everfavorite hats but also scarfs of diffenrent colours (I learned a new way to tie mine during summer and have been itching to try out.) and ofcourse headbands. I have also found my love of pearls and gold again. They give such a pleasent old fashioned feel to necklace or pin. And as always one of my biggest inspirations are books even more so now that I study to be a librarian. And trust me when I say that we will be seeing a lot more books in the near future...

What inspires you this autumn, dear reader? Please do share in the comments.

My bachelorette party.

So I was surprised with a bachelorette party. It was one of the nicest days of my life. The theme was the French revolution and I was the poor, unfortunate royalist queen.

Everybody had gone through so much trouble to organze this and I can not tell how grateful I am to have such good friends.

Mari had even made this awesome game for us to play! It was so much fun.

And thus I lost my crown.

I wore

Hat: From a litlle boutique and customized with a holy bunch of tulle.
Shirt: Second hand
Dress: Juliette & Justine
Stockings: Seppälä
Shoes: Given to me by Mari
Rosette: Made by my lovely friends (It's the royalist colours)

I must thank my friends again for organazing this and especially Mari and Kata who did most of the work. I am more grateful and touched than I can put in words.

Mademoiselle Parapluie.

Ps. No using the pictures then as Sanni took them.
